American Home Week Celebration
By Stephen Ferrebee, President, Warren Area Board of REALTORS
April is Fair Housing Month and the Warren Area Board of REALTORS celebrates by holding a week long American Home Week Celebration beginning with Open House Weekend on April 10 and 11.
A Poster contest sponsored by Huntington Bank is underway for elementary students. Any student may submit a poster to the contest. The theme of the poster this year is "My Neighborhood in the Future". A paragraph titled "What Good Things I Have Done for My Neighborhood" must accompany the poster. Divisions for entries are Grades 1 & 2, Grades 3 & 4, and Grades 5 & 6. A $50 first prize and $25 second prize will be given in each age group. A pizza party for the two winners in each age group will be held at Chuck E Cheese's on Monday April 12.
An Essay contest for junior and senior high students is also underway. Judging will include two grade groups: 7th - 9th and 10th - 12th. The essay of 500 words or less on, "What Being a Good Neighbor Means to the Future of My Neighborhood" is the theme. Cash prizes of $200 for first place and $100 for second place will be awarded in each grade group. Winning essays will be read by the writers at the American Home Week banquet on April 13th.
Entry forms and rules for both contests are available online at www.wabor.org. Submissions are encouraged from individuals and schools and must be received at the Warren Area Board of REALTORS office by 4:00 PM on March 31, 2010.
At our banquet, we will honor a REALTOR of the Year, an Affiliate of the Year, and winner of the Walter D. Graham Civic Award. Each year the Warren Area Board of REALTORS also awards their Medallion Award to residential and commercial properties that have been significantly improved and their Community Pride Award to businesses, organizations or associations who have made significant contributions to the community. Nominations for these awards are made by REALTORS and Affiliate Members of the Warren Area Board of REALTORS. Entry forms for these awards are also online at www.wabor.org and submissions must be received at the Warren Area Board of REALTORS office by 4:00 PM on March 31, 2010.
