Did you ever wonder why Martin Luther King started his famous speech with “I Have a Dream” not “I Have a Goal”?
I believe it’s because – Goals are black and white – static - Dreams are passion filled and fluid. Goals give focus - Dreams give power.
I have a dream for this industry and this association. I dream of successful, professional individuals who make a good living practicing our craft. In my dream we boast about the fact that we are Realtors®.
We are energized proud and cognoscente of our part in the economic and social machine we call commerce in this country. One of the primary focuses of the Realtor® Code of Ethics is the preamble that begins “Under All is the Land” – that beginning sets the tone for every responsibility and possibility we enjoy in our industry. It defines us as the gate keepers “the door” if you will to one of the most basic rights in this country the right of land ownership. How we carry out that responsibility is up to us.
How we fulfill that dream is based on our vision of the future of this great nation. How this dream is interpreted in our local environment is up to us. Energy is contagious knowledge is indispensable. We can define our own reality. You can expect the worse and continually experience it or you can change your thinking.
How do we accomplish this dream?
We start with determination combine it with positive thinking add our God given talents and increase our knowledge of our craft. Determination comes from believing in what you do that gives you energy. Positive thinking comes from surrounding yourself with positive thinkers and controlling your personal thoughts. Talent is innate, nurtured and grown. Knowing your abilities is education, mentoring and giving back through experience and training. Most people want their lives to continue improving yet they value peace and stability at the same time. You can’t forget if you want to improve you can’t stay the same. Growth means change.
One last thought. Be a MENTOR to a new agent or returning licensee - give back to your industry and leave a legacy.

We can define our own reality. Certainty in the midst of uncertainty brings stability. If you believe in what you’re doing that gives you energy.

How do we accomplish all this - determination combined with positive thinking, talent, and knowing your craft.
Most people want their lives to continue improving yet they value peace and stability at the same time. You can’t forget if you want to improve you can’t stay the same Growth Means Change. We’ll be working to improve the quality of life for all our members.
Paraphrasing, poet John Andrew Holmes, I leave you with this thought:
"Never tell a Realtor that anything cannot be done. God may have been waiting centuries for someone ignorant enough of the impossible to do that very thing.”
